Charles Street & Seaton Lane

Following the announcement by the HCA in early 2009 of funds for local authority housing development, Hartlepool Borough Council chose to work with Housing Hartlepool and Yuill Homes to develop a bid which would allow it to achieve a start on site within the tight deadlines being imposed by the HCA.

Yuill Construction acted as design and build contractor for the 23 homes at Seaton Lane and 34 at Charles Street which provided high quality two, three and four bedroom accommodation.

Yuill Homes started work in January 2010 to construct the innovative Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 houses which incorporated photovoltaics on both sites, grey water recycling at Charles Street and a SUDS pond at Seaton Lane. Work has been completed at Seaton Lane in December 2010 and we are set to complete the Charles Street site in early 2011.

On both sites we have focussed on training and employment opportunities for local people which resulted in three new apprenticeships for the area and the ability to provide work experience for young people via Yuill’s ongoing partnership with Hartlepool College of Further Education. In additional Meet the Buyer Day were held to attract local suppliers and subcontractors to work on the site.
